Skilled Nursing Facility
A Skilled Nursing Facility is the highest care environment for today’s seniors that require the skilled nursing services of a physician, nurse, social worker, physical therapist, occupational therapist or a respiratory therapist. These facilities are mostly paid for by Medicare and Medicaid.
A Skilled Nursing Facility is usually used more for a short term rehabilitation stay than as a long term care option unless the senior is on a Medicaid program.

A Skilled Nursing Facility also offer respite care, wound care, and post-acute care. And unlike most residential care options, your physician may be willing and able to personally visit you while you’re staying in a nursing home.
This can also sometimes be provided or continued by Home Health in your own home, or your long-term community.
Most seniors will never need a nursing home due to the increased services that assisted living and Dementia/Alzheimer’s/Memory Care Communities can perform. Nursing homes are considered the most restrictive environments for seniors.
